Ok So I was pretty excited about my (stolen from another bee haha) idea of having a jersey customized with my new last name in our favorite NFL team and have guests sign the back to frame for the “man room” instead of a guest book. cause realisticly wtf am I gonna do with a guestbook…
So I call my grandmother who has been picking up random odds and ends things for me since I”m in FL and she as well as the wedding is in NY. I call her and ask if our local sports store sells jerseys or knows anywhere besides the NFL shop I can get a jersey for guests to sign…her response was less than enthusiastic.
She literally said “did you run that by your mother?” wtf? why woud I run it by my mother? It’s my wedding, my guest book or lack there of Plus my mom didn’t have a guestbook at her own wedding?!
Why was this so offensive to my grandma?! Am I crazy? I’m really confused right now…lol

@mmm_jacklyn: I think you need to take a deep breath. It’s not like she said it was tacky or stupid. She probably just doesn’t like it. And who cares? If you love it, you don’t need to “run it by your mother” anyway.

Sorry… But chill out.
Have you involved your mom in other wedding decisions? Is it totally crazy a grandmother would question something that’s untraditional?
save your frustration for something serious.

@mmm_jacklyn: Woah! I think you are way overreacting. She probably doesn’t like the non-traditional idea, but who cares! The idea is pretty awesome, and you don’t NEED to run it by your mother (obviously)… Let this one slide!

Aww… it sucks when ideas are met with less enthusiasm than you’d hope. But I think this isn’t the battle to fight with her. Now you know that g-ma’s a little more traditional, and maybe keep her out of sourcing items that don’t scream “wedding”.

I agree with everyone else – you’re def overreacting. It’s not that big of a deal. I would be a little weirded out by that too if I was a grandma not used to all the flashy new stuff that we brides do these days. True you shouldn’t have to run it by your mom, but it’s not like she went, “OH GOD YOU’RE DUMB WHAT A HORRIBLE IDEA.”

@mmm_jacklyn: Hmm.. my first instict is to think that your mom had plans to get you a guestbook that she’s spoken to your grandmother about. Or maybe since your mom didn’t have one, your grandma thinks your mom will think you shouldn’t have anything because it’s a waste of money. In any case, this doesn’t seem to be something to get mad at. Also, I love your idea! So cute!!

My grandmother called me a screwball when I told her I was hiring an Italian ice cart to come after dinner.. I think it’s just a grandma thing! 😉

Your idea is different, and you probably just suprised her.
I wouldn’t be mad at her reaction.
