REVIEW FROM A REAL CUSTOMER****************************************
I am just updating my review (and I created a new post on it ) now that I actually have one. First I will say that Janet who is the owner is a sweet lady and very pleasant. That’s all I will say. As for the dress, I received pictures of it, and it was NOT what I wanted, in fact I cried when I saw it. This was before it was beaded with final touches. So I printed off the pictures of the dress and with my pencil marked where I wanted it changed…The front and the straps, the back and the train. Everything except the shape of the dress (mermaid). Anyway, after all that when I got the final pictures, AGAIN it wasn’t how I asked. The straps were too wide, the back of the dress was completely wrong and it looked like a glittery maxi pad running down my back and onto my arse. I was mortified again. SO the THIRD time I said very bluntly clearly and again with another drawing of what I wanted, the front, the straps, the back, the train.. and was promised it would be taken care of. When I was told that the dress was being recut I was doing my best to be patient (2 months away from my wedding). FINALLY I got pictures of it recut, and I was again mortified. The straps were the same, the cutting was so jagged and threw off the rouching because of the placement, and the train wasn’t touched at all. So I gave up and asked for the dress to be sent to me. Thankfully when the dress arrived they got the back of the dress right. Still the dip and deep V wasn’t as low as I wanted it was still a half inch high but it was a HELL of a lot better than it was. The colour ivory of the chiffon was beautiful, absolutely dreamy and the general structure of the dress was ok. I put it on very quickly and it fit me like a glove. So I will say that the fit of the dress was perfection and the material but the rest was disasterous. It was covered in cheap silver sequence when I asked for beading, crystals and rhinestones. I went to my local seamstress here in town who’s creditials take her to Universal Studios where she did the costume design for the theatrical production of The Lion King, as well as Mama Mia. Over 20 years in the industry. I showed her how I wanted my dress, and what I asked I only got like 30% of it. It’s now costing me $1,123 plus tax to fix my botched dress that I already paid for that has to be done in 6.5 weeks because my wedding is in 7 weeks. Thank God she doesn’t have to completely re-make the dress because the structure of it was good enough to use. So I am very greatful that the most important thing they got right. But the rest of it, I’m very disappointed in. It’s nothing personal against Janet, because like I said she’s very pleasant and very good to work with. But I do question and doubt to high degrees her head seamstress in China.
In my personal opinion, NEVER have the most important dress of your life left in the hands of someone you haven’t even seen. NEVER prepay for something before you see the end product, and if you want your wedding dress made, go look for a local or close enough to local even if it’s a 1-2 or 3 hour car drive, seamstress with HIGH consistent creditials and do it that way. The minute I went and saw Valarie of The Whole Nine Yards, every stress I had was taken away because she knew exactly what I wanted, and she could see that I clearly didn’t get it. I got someone’s version of what I wanted, and a cheap one at that. Mind you she did explain to me that every dress you see in the bridal stores and catelogs have been made at least 50 times before they are finalized and put out for sale. In other words, it takes about 50 times to perfect a typical wedding dress the way the designer wants it. My dress was made only once. But even still, even made once, it wasn’t a complicated proceedure and if someone professional and uber experienced would have been able to get the straps, the bodice, the train and the deep V back right. The first time, not three times and still total a miss.
So there you have it, an honest review of my experience with mybigfatbeautifulwedding. When my dress is finished from my seamstress I will post pics of what I got and what I had to get re-done. 🙂 I hope this review helps and gives some insight on the importance of literally taking matters into your own hands. And yes, beware of those who have made only one or two posts and boast RAVE reviews about MGFBW, chances are the “OMG IT’S PERFECT” reviews and testimonials are edited or done by a friend or family member. But I guarantee I am of no affilation, just a dissappointed-never-again-customer with a big fat beautiful blunder.
