@housebee:  +1

I think the topic of sex needs to be brought up much earlier. My parents had the sex talk with me before I was 10.

I would be dissapointed. However, I would support my daughter & help her raise the baby.

2 school friends had babies at that age & now have amazing children who are perfect & have no health issues. My friends lost their childhoods & had to grow up fast but both are married now with more children.

I have an 11 year old.  She’s not even thinking about sex, she’s had questions, and she hasn’t even  started her period! We’ve educated her on sex already, but she doesn’t care.  We are open about it and she knows to come to me with ANYTHING (we had some previous “google image searching” going on recently” – I told her I’m more informative than google!)  I don’t even want to think about it….

For those of you that said you would ground/keep at home/place on house arrest, can you please explain why?  It seems to me that the child was trying something that no one explained to her, so I can’t understand why she would deserve to be punished.

Can I just add that I don’t think the 11 year old needs to be punished in this situation? I think it’s clear there is no way she could have known what she was doing and was taken advantage of. She is a victim, not a badly behaved child.

Abortion, immediately. The fact that the parents aren’t sure she even knew what sex was shows that they haven’t done their job as parents. Holy crap.

@housebee:  Yeah, if the parents thought she didn’t even know what sex was they obvoiusly didn’t explain it to her. How was she supposed to know it was something she shouldn’t do? Or the consequences of it?

I’d force an abortion. Then enroll in some serious long term pricey ass counselling.

OP. i’m curious how far along the child was before the parents discovered the pregnancy? my younger sister got pregnant at 16 and no one knew until she was 7 months pregnant. it wasn’t visually obvious and she continued to get periods. at what month in pregnancy are abortions no longer done? that might have played into this mom’s decision, no? i wish i saw this episode because i’m soooo curious about how they found out/even thought to test for it?

This is why sex ed needs to start EARLY — much earlier than we think. By age 11, I definitely knew all about what sex was (even though I didn’t have it for another 10 years). I didn’t get sex ed in school till 8th grade, and guess what? Kids were already doing it then. Her parents did her a huge disservice by not talking about it with her sooner.
