Hopefully it’s recyclable! I am lucky, I have never had terrible presents from my Future In-Laws. This year they got me a leather notebook and beautiful smelling soaps 🙂

Awe that sucks! At least you have a sense of humor about it 🙂 I’ve never received a “slap-in-the-face” gift before, especially from my SO’s family, but I hope if I ever do I can be as gracious about it as you were haha.

Haven’t gotten any of them either…at least not from FI’s side of the family.  If anything my mom is the guilty one…she has sent me used mens shampoo for Christmas before LOL.  I just shrug it off as a little bit crazy 🙂

One year my then out-laws bought me a “scarflace” which wasn’t their best choice, but in their defence it almost always comes with either a large cheque, a wodge of cash or some gift vouchers. Not always the best taste but very generous.

I’m actually starting to soften up to them.

My in-laws and I get along so no bad gifts from them. However, my great aunt bought us some sort of Christian Marriage book as a wedding gift. She knows we’re athiests. I chuckled and then threw it out.

Dollar General stuff. I am not big on getting presents or people feeling the need to buy people things just because they feel they should. I don’t need a bunch of cheap knick knacks- save your money people.

@mixtapehearts:  Same. My mother tries her best and usually does great with gifts, however she has been known to give TV Commercial products occasionally. One year I got one of those magentic bracelets that are supposed to improve your balance or something. Another year she got us some weird recliner armrest organizer. I am trying to find the right person to regift that to, since it’s still in the box in a closet lol!!

@6598731ssfse3:  I mean let’s be real. I’d rather you take the $5-$10 you spent and bring my pregnant ass some McDonald’s.

I have never gotten a slap in the face gift from my in-laws, but my next door neighbors gave us a package of english muffins and a 20 count box of Jet-dry gel pack dishwashing soap. I was like; ehhh whaattt in mind head; but expressed a heartfelt THANK YOU, and I couldn’t wait to try the gel packs in the dish washer since we only ever use liquid dish washing soap! LOL

We invited them over for dinner last week for an early christmas dinner and to exchange gifts. Now I am not expecting much since these people are my next door neighbors, but a little thoughtfullness goes a long way. We cooked the dinner and feed them, they drank our alchohol, gave them a scented candle, a box of gourmet chocolate covered pretzels, and a silk poinsetta plant christmas decoration that lights up, since they are a couple we gave them a grouped gift for both to enjoy as oppose to indiviudal gifts. Now its not like we spent $50 bucks on their gifts but I put some thought into it. They did not, they pulled stuff out of their kitchen cabinets and threw them into a gift bag.

It happens to us all, and I still love my neighbors, my fiance and I laugh about it now.

My actual in-laws give great, thoughtful gifts.  My ex’s mother, on the other hand, didn’t.  She’d spend money to buy nice new gifts for my ex, then give me her crappy old (ugly) costume jewelry.  She was a heavy smoker, so all of her stuff reeked.  I’d honestly have preferred that she not send me anything.  When we split up, I gleefully gave him back his mom’s stuff to return to her.

Why don’t you go to YOUR family’s Christmas Celebration and blow off the FIL’s???? I don’t get why the Fiance would be on board with the torture you endure

Not from my FIL’s, but from my FI’s friend. We watched his dogs when he went to NYC. He brought back some nice tea and coffee for my Fiance. I got a rat-shaped key chain that came with his wife’s new Marc Jacobs bag.

my SO’s mother once gifted me a concealer palette for my birthday. in her defense, it had super cute packaging and it was from benefit – but really; concealer?? I was extra upset, because i have nice skin! it was kinda mean, and random at the same time, like she put zero thought into it.

I guess I’m glad my Future Mother-In-Law doesn’t give me gifts at all. I agree that temp tattoos are worse than no gift at all.
