I feel like this has been a really bad news week around here (one of my friends fiances died suddenly, a woman from a few towns over was killed in a freak accident, and she was 7 months pregnant, etc….blehhh)
so… I’m very excited about good news and had to post.
New Hampshire’s Republican majority state senate just rejected a bill to overturn legal gay marriage, by 130 to 220.
SO soooo happy for several reasons:
– more and more republicans are rejecting the notion that being republican means being opposed to marriage equality
– there were *maybe* 12 people outside of the state house protesting the decision with their sad little signs. It seems like every time this comes up, the opposition is getting smaller and smaller.
– my friends cupcake business, and other small local businesses – weddings are GREAT for the economy, the more the merrier!
– and most importantly, it would have made me sick, and sad, and angry – to be getting married the same year that my aunts, who have been together for 20 years, had their marriage declared invalid by the state they live in.
If you are in New Husband and happen to be likeminded, please consider writing a letter to your state reps to thank them.

Woo hoo! I grew up in Mass right over the border from New Husband…I think it’s a big deal for New Husband to do something like this! But, live free or die – for everyone, equally!

I hadn’t heard about that, it makes me SO HAPPY!! My husband has been in bootcamp since January and I get so excited every time I tell him about a new state that passes marriage equality bills! We are both very pro-gay rights.
When I told him about Washington State getting their bill passed, he said it makes him so happy to know that he will be fighting for an America that is starting to actually give EVERYONE the rights he’s trying to protect.

@Miss Fish: Thank him for us. 🙂

Just to clarify, they had passed a gay marriage bill a couple of years ago – this was an attempt to over turn it
and it FAILED.
woop woop 🙂
@Miss Fish: seconding PP on the “thank you” to your husband.
