Sorryin advance, this may be a bit Too Much Information,
All week I’ve been having all kinds of uncomfortable feelings “down under”. Started Monday morning when S.O and I were fooling around and he had to pull out because I was in so much pain. By mid-week it was burning, and on Wednesday I finally saw the discharge I knew was inevitable.
Went to the doctor, and yup- yeast infection. He gave me Diflucan for Wednesday (one 150 mg pill- $12 for one stinkin’ pill!). I think it’s working, but really slowly. And it’s still so uncomfortable. Doesn’t help that I keep scratching it and making the area raw. I told S.O that if he sees me reaching to scratch- which I only do in private fwiw- he has every right to handcuff me to stop it (he’s a security guard with expensive cuffs I can’t wriggle out of- and he seems to be cool with the idea).
Any bees out there who have had one of these bad boys- how long did it last? Did you have to get extra treatments or anything for it? And most importantly, how did you deal?

@Papillion: Ugh. Sorry you’re going through this. You can take some apple cider vinegar and water (no stronger than 1:1 ratio because otherwise it stings like holy hell) and rinse carefully and thoroughly. Just your outer bits though, not saying to douche. That helps me with the itching. Do it with cold water, too, because that will also slightly help alleviate any swelling and is better for itching than warm water. Good luck!

Get some of the Monistat Soothing Care itch relief cream or some Vagisil anti-itch wipes.
Also, if you weren’t using condoms, your man should get treated as well of he’ll re-infect you.

Sorry, didn’t answer your questions! I am prone to these, and the minor ones that go away on their own tend to last a few days for me. If there is serious discharge or pain involved, it lasts for as long as an OTC treatment lasts. I know you aren’t supposed to douche, but honestly because I am ridiculously prone to them and don’t want to be shoving medication up there monthly, I will do a vinegar douche if I think a minor problem is turning into a major one. The acidity gets the yeast back down to manageable levels and restores harmony to the vaginal flora and fauna.
For me, prevention has been so critical. I take probiotics that include strains that are supposed to be beneficial for vaginal health daily and am careful with how I clean myself. I don’t use soap except on my outer labia and make sure to rinse everything else very thoroughly at the end of my shower. A little bit Too Much Information perhaps, but I don’t let Fiance near me until after he washes his hands thoroughly and rinses his mouth out with water. I’ve asked him to occassionally rinse his nether regions with vinegar + water just in case, and I generally don’t like to have his penis inside of me if I’ve given him oral. Again, sorry to share sooooo much, but if you or any one else reading this happens to be prone to them, I figure sharing is helpful.

I have been struggling with one that won’t completely go away. The worst part was, I went to see the doctor and she did an exam, and found nothing. Nothing. Later that day, I continued having discharge. How is this even possible?
Anyways, I also second the apple cider vinegar. It reeeeeeeeeeeeally helps with the symptoms.
