Actually platinum was popular in the 1920s and 30s, but during WW2 it was illegal to make platinum jewellery because the platinum was required for the war effort. By the time the ban was lifted, the popularity of platinum had waned and the trend had moved on to yellow gold. Now we’ve come full circle and platinum is trendy again. So you could argue that platinum is actually more old fashioned than yellow gold…

I like both metals but I dress mostly in “cool” colors- grey, blue, black. So I think white metals go better with the clothes I wear most often. But if I wore more of the warm colors- reds, browns, oranges- I would want more yellow gold.
So from a practical standpoint white metals make more sense for me- does any one else take this into consideration?

We were told by a jeweler that “yellow gold is not currently in fashiion”. We both said something about how we don’t care at the same time in response. To us yellow gold is “gold” (since pure gold is yellow hued) and then there’s white gold and rose gold. They are all are beautiful!
I think it’s best to pick the color that looks best with your skin tone, or at the very least the one you like best. Screw fashion, as others have said it will keep changing anyhow.
Besides, I think diamonds/mossys/etc show up better on yellow or even rose gold, to me they look like they blend in too much with white gold for my personal taste. Obviously I’m biased tho 🙂

You can’t really get more modern than my ring, and it is yellow gold (it’s an octagon shape with a cubed raw diamond inside)

Yellow is the only color gold comes in naturally. So, no, it will never be out of style. It is beautiful.

I have always loved your ring. Saw you post it on your hand a couple years ago and I love it so much. I never forgot it.

I love yellow gold! I think it is classic. My ring is yellow gold:

Both my grandmothers and my mom had white gold rings so I grew up thinking white gold was the classic color, and not yellow gold.
Supposedly, yellow gold is making a comeback, but around me (Midwest) I haven’t seen it.
It doesn’t matter – you should get what you like. I had a beautiful 18kt yellow gold and diamond wedding band that I lost 🙁 It was the prettiest, warmest shade of gold. I had it rhodium plated at one point to make it look white, then I had the rhodium removed and learned to appreciate the beautiful gold color.

I do not think its old fashioned. Are silver metals VERY in right now? YES! But I see rose gold stepping up ALOT lately & I feel yellow is not far beyond. Trends come & go – get what makes your heart smile!

Gold whatever color is timeless. My ring is white gold yet it is over 100 years old. The colors in “fashion” may change throughout time but Gold is fashionable what ever color. Get what you like forget what is popular

We have basically the exact same ring! Mine was my grandmother’s and from the 1950’s.
When I originally got my ring, I had planned on having it re-set in white gold, once I put it on though I realized that it really suited me. I have olive skin and dark hair so I think its very flattering on my skin tone. I love it now.

I love yellow gold when I get a tan…it stands out on my skin then. My mom always loved yellow gold cause of her blond hair. She said it made rings look “REAL” because white metals all look the same but you can tell yellow gold is usually not fake. Her wedding band is yellow gold, but my mom never had an ering. I love some of the filligree designs in yellow today…they look like flowers.
