I love all these yellow gold rings! I get so tired of seeing white metals all the time, as pretty as they are (this is coming from someone who loves and wears mostly white metals herself). I was strongly considering 18k yellow for my new ering, but decided to go with 14k rose instead as it mixed a little better with all the white metal stuff I already have.
Still, a classic diamond (or moissy – love them in YG, or CZ, or white sapphire, etc…) and yellow gold solitaire is so gorgeous to me – not to mention how amazing colored gold can look with colored gemstones!
I don’t think yellow gold is outdated, I just think it’s under-utilized.

Love your set! Beautiful choice.
To answer the question, I don’t classify any metal as “old fashioned,” however certain STYLES of rings combined with whatever metal they are set in can definitely date a ring. That can be said for any ring, whether it be a diamond cluster in yellow gold or a white gold art deco style.
I personally love yellow gold, and all the jewelry I wear is a warm gold tone. It complements my coloring best and looks classic on me. My engagement ring is also yellow gold. Zero regrets/doubts and I get lovely comments from strangers all the time. I don’t care if others may think yellow gold looks dated. I’m the one who has to wear it until I’m dead in the ground and I love it! My ring:

A matching band for a Claddagh ring! How cool!

My Husband’s parents are from Portugual. They own a jewelry store and cater mostly to Poruguese people in the area. Portuguese gold is a little warmer than most gold.
I naturally then got a 19k Portuguese yellow gold engagement ring. I think it’s pretty classic. The Portguese certainly don’t consider it out of style!

My goodness! Your set is so incredibly beautiful! I have got to get my hands on some of that gold… it’s so buttery!

Hehe thank you! I think the slighest hint of platinum along the edge of the band and along the crown of the diamond really help set it off. 🙂

Thank you. 🙂 The matching wedding band was one of the major reasons for choosing this engagement ring. It meant a lot to me to have a Claddagh ring but it can be rather difficult to find wedding bands that really look good with them and most of them don’t come with matching bands, so when I saw this matching set, I knew it was for me!

When my Fiance and I were picking out rings, THE ONLY request he had was, he wanted to see me in a classic yellow gold setting. I’ve worn platinum and white gold for the last almost 20 years, and frankly I was a bit pouty about his request. Well, guess what?!
I have a very simple, classic Tiffany 6 prong solitaire, a ring that not anyone anywhere just stops a gushes at kwim? It’s a nice sized stone 1.5 ct and sparkles like mad…but the NUMBER ONE THING I hear from women of all ages is “omg that yellow gold is so pretty, or I’m so glad it’s coming back in style” over and over again! Like chicks have been STARVING for some buttery goodness!!!
And, because I’m a matchy-matchy freak, I just took my diamond stud earrings and pendant set in to have it reset from platinum to yellow gold! I thought the jeweler would have a heart attack at my request but guess what? He says “I can’t believe how many people are coming in lately to do this exact same thing. Yellow gold is really HOT right now!”
I personally find beauty in all the metals, and love that there are so many choices!!!

I love both but my preference is yellow gold and would prefer to have my bands in gold.

exactly this happened with me. I used to hate yellow gold, but the past year or so I learned to appreciate it in all it’s beauty. when my husband and i upgrade our wedding band, we will go for yellow gold (the LOVE collection from Cartier). his ring will be without diamonds and mine will be with diamonds, so we will still match our rings and I will get some sparkle. hehe
My mother and my grandma also only have yellow gold. and someday their jewelry will be passed on to me (they already gave me some yellow gold jewelry the past time I went to visit, they live in brazil and i live in germany). the only silver metal jewelry i have is my exteeensive collection of trollbeads and pandora, plus a couple of sterling silver rings and a couple of sterling silver earrings, plus my actual wedding band that is white gold. all the other jewelry i have is yellow gold or at least two-tone (yellow gold and white gold).
yellow gold also looks more wedding-y to me. maybe because i was born and raised in brazil, where everybody has yellow gold wedding bands. so, when my husband and i upgrade next year, yellow gold it will be. it is beautiful and will match most of my jewelry. i wear my pandora and trollbeads on my right hand, the same hand i wear my favorite ring: a white gold and yellow gold snake covered in diamonds. it used to belong to my grandma and she gave it to me. so i feel free to wear either gold or silver on my right arm.

Yellow gold just isn’t my thing, I’ve never liked it even as a kid. I actualy dislike all metals that have a shiny gold/yellow look to them (brass). If a purse is everything I want it to be…except the clasps are brass…I skip it. NOW if it’s something that has an aged look to it…I sometimes like it.
But that’s just me, I don’t care what’s in style or not. I love lots of things that are “old fashioned”
