I just designed a custom yellow gold pave ering (with a well-known, trusted jeweler) and had to make this exact decision, so I’ll add my two cents. I don’t have any photos to share because we just ordered it (waiting is killing me!!).

My jeweler said from a security perspective, it doesn’t matter whether you go with 4 or 6. Maybe ten or twenty years ago it mattered, but not today. But as another Bee said, better safe than sorry in case a prong gets messed up.

From a visual perspective, I saw a four-prong 0.8 carat round in yellow gold pave and it looked beautiful. Allowed you to appreciate the side of the diamond (it was a K, but didn’t look yellow at all). It did look a bit square from the top.

Ultimately I went with 6 because I liked the rounder look and I went with a larger stone so didn’t want to take any chances. Seeing the side of the stone wasn’t as important to me. Keep in mind that it’s harder to find a 6-prong setting that will allow a wedding band to sit flush. That also wasn’t important to me as I like a small gap.

@missclairemarie: We will be ring twins! It looks absolutely stunning, and I’m glad you are happy with the yellow prongs. Thanks for sharing! πŸ™‚

Mine is rose gold but otherwise fits what you’re looking for! I have 6- prong and agree it makes the diamond appear more round which I like!

You’ve probably seem mine here on the Bee before (I posted it so much when I first got it). I’ve yellow gold, platinum prongs x 4. I love being able to see the side of the diamond, it gives an extra space to sparkle from 😁

Either way I’m sure it will be beautiful. The worst part now is the wait!

I love my four prong setting! I take it regularly to be cleaned, and while they have it they always make sure it’s secure. I’ve had it 2 years with no issue πŸ™‚ & I am ROUGH on the ring. My prongs are also white gold- not sure if that makes a difference!beachfingerring
