I so empathize with your situation. In my previous working life I used to be in charge of coordinating an informal weekly gathering of co-workers (usually ~15-18 people a week). I did this successfully for three years. Toward the end of my tenure, a group of new co-workers began to cause issues because they were frequent no-shows. We would regularly have only 75-80% of the people who agreed to show up actually present themselves. Everything came to a head on one particularly dreadful evening when I reserved a very large table at the most exclusive restaurant in town and only 30%
of the people showed up. It was personally humiliating, as the manager approached me after dinner and regretfully informed me that the next time I made a booking for more than four people we wouldn’t be seated until the entire party arrived, and, if the entire party wasn’t there within 30 minutes of our reservation, we would lose the reservation and those of us who were present could be put on a waiting list.
Naturally, the uncivilized people who got us into this situation insisted that it was the restaurant that was being rude. I told them that I disagreed and that they would no longer be invited to these gatherings. Everyone else thought I was being too rigid and told me that they didn’t want me to coordinate the dinners anymore. I stepped aside and within two months the dinners had stopped. (I wanted to spray-paint “I TOLD YOU SO” on the side of the office building!)

lol I chuckled when I saw you response, “We still haven’t hear from 1/2 of our people.” At least you wedding is in October! Mine is in three weeks. Even I haven’t heard from 1/2 of our guests! Eesh. lol

OMG!!! I can’t believe the rest of the people told you that you were being too rigid with the no shows!!! AND they asked you to step aside?? WOW! Obviously, THEY didn’t have to deal with the (righteously) upset restaurant manager. I’m not surprised at all that the dinners stopped after you stepped aside lol The spray painting of ‘I told you so” would have been a nice touch, but that would make the author easy to identify hahaha!

@chercee: I hear ya. I’ve been texting people “Did you get the invite?” as a hint. Then I get the response “I did, it’s so pretty”. And then…crickets. OK SO SEND BACK YOUR RESPONSE!! Grrrr. I am the kind of person when I get an invite, my RSVP is out in the mail the next day.
