I finally bit the bullet and registered for a prenatal yoga class at my local community center.
I’ve never done yoga before (only pilates, step and aerobics), so I don’t know what to look for in a mat. Can anyone recommend a good mat for prenatal yoga, or at least give some tips as to what I should look for in one? I’d like to find one that costs $30 or less.
Thanks for your help!

I would consider a pilates mat. I prefer them, as I bruise easily, and I believe pregnancy increases the risk of bruising too?
The are thicker and better padded. I had tried rolling like a ball (pilates not yoga) once on a yoga mat and never again! They are so much more comfortable if you’re on a hip, elbow, knee etc.
I’ve never actually done prenatal yoga or been pregnant.

I got a cheap mat from Target. For prenatal, I took a pillow as well just in case I needed any extra padding.

@PlusOne: I use my normal yoga mat that I picked up at target a couple of years ago. In my prenatal yoga class the teacher provides us with extra “scraps” of yoga mat for poses that require us to be on our knees so we can “pad up” and have extra cushioning. I also do pilates & agree with the other poster that the pilates mat is SUPER soft & might be a good option for yoga as well.
