What is my deal?? I have gone dress shopping SO many times. I thought I found the dress, but when I went back to try it on I just wasn’t feeling it. Now I’m almost 6 months out and still no dress!
Part of me can’t decide because it’s so much money to spend on one item that I want to make it perfect. Another part of me thinks that I’m uncomfortable in my own skin right now (pastry school = bad idea for weight loss) and I won’t like any dress on me right now.
Now I’m starting to get worried about time… did anyone buy their dress at the last minute?

My wedding is before yours and I don’t have a dress either. But I am having it made with a local seamstress and she is starting in January :/

I wasn’t in the same position, but I wish I HAD waited until about 4 months out! I lost over 20lbs after I bought my dress (9 months early), and it made alterations a nightmare. You have time, believe it or not, to get a bit more comfortable with where you want to be weight wise and keep searching before you commit to anything! I would definitely be looking around, but I wouldn’t stress. (: You still have a comfortable 2-3 months before you REALLY need think about having your order in.

@CzechBride14: Whew, this made me feel so much better! I need to get my butt in gear so I can feel more comfortable with myself. I’m not terribly far off from where I want to be, so long as I start working on it now!
@excitedtobeMRSF: So glad to hear that I’m not the only procrastinator! I think there is so much pressure to ‘get yoru dress early!’ that 6 months sounds really close to the wedding date.
@AnaA: We were almost date twins! May 24 is the original date Fiance and I picked but it was taken at the venue we chose, so we moved it to June. That makes me feel better that your seamstress isn’t even starting until next month!

I ordered mine 5 months out, and there was no issue. I’m actaully glad I did. The dress I ended up with was newer to the store so had I gone earlier I would have missed it. Plus my ideas of what I want have changed as my wedding plans evolved.

Mine is in 7 and I haven’t even been fitted by my seamstress. 😛

@iheartcake: You have plenty of time! Don’t stress yourself out. Make sure to ask about ordering times with the salons, but you’ve probably got a few more months before hitting the absolute deadlines for a new, ordered dress. You can also opt to get the dress tailored by a seamstress rather than within the salon. That might give you more flexibilty with the timeline.
In a pinch, there is also the option of off the rack. I had to buy a second dress two months before my wedding, and I found several shops that carried even that season’s dresses on hand. I’m not saying you should use that as your primary plan, but it’s there as a solid plan B.

I just went through this too. I only got engaged a few weeks ago, but we are planning a May wedding, so I knew I had to get a move on with finding a dress. After looking at all the wedding timelines and guides for when to buy your dress, I thought I was totally behind schedule and I would only be able to buy a sample!!
And while there were a couple dresses I looked at that would have been cutting it close, 95% of them were fine. The dress I ended up buying is going to be here in mid-March, so I’ll still have over 2 months for alterations. It feels scary, but you definitely still have time!

You have time.Where I’m from most shops take 6-9 months to get your gown in once you order it but I’m sure there are places that ship in less time.If you are a sample size (8,10,12,14)…you could buy a sample last minute. You could also get your dress made by a local seamstress.Hope you find ur dream dress!I’ve seen at least two people come in to the shop I work in and need a dress a week before their wedding!Luckily we could find them discontinued sample dresses
