I KNOW!! I bought a brand new car and later that week went to the grocery store and while I was in the store some asshat left the cart in the parking space in front of mine and it got blown into my car. I was incredibly cranky about this.

Agreed. Yesterday, I started pulling into a parking space at the grocery store, only to find a cart in the space. I had to pull halfway in, get out and move the cart, then finish parking. And it was directly across the aisle from a cart return.

I remember being a bagger and part of my job was to collect carts…it was so irritating! I must admit I’ve been guilty of leaving carts in parking spots though:( Our grocery store got rid of all but one corral and I’m not walking across the huge parking lot, 9 months pregnant and in pain, and in 90 degree heat to put it away. It makes me feel so awful:(

One of my main grocery stores actually has no cart return areas, which is so frustrating.  And they keep all the carts inside the store.  So if I want to be really good, I have to put my groceries in the car and then walk back into the store to put the cart away.  GRR.

There’s a grocery store right down the road from my house that is terrible about this. I have seen people park NEXT to a cart return and still just roll them away from their car. I’ve stopped shopping there because of how many carts are left in the parking lot.

Consider my gears to be ground.

I’ve been so “rude” as to huff when someone leaves their cart out in the parking lot while I’m on my way inside and TAKE THEIR CART FROM THEM and put it back in the cart house. Hopefully they got the hint.

Hmmm… a few times I have an elderly lady push her cart into my hands assuming I would need it and she wouldn’t have to take it back up.

I didn’t and would end up putting the cart away myself….. At first it annoyed me, but now I am used to it. Is that sad?

I try to put them back, but I do have limits.  But so I don’t have to walk far, I’ll usually park near a cart return, even if it’s further away from the store, to make it easier to put the thing away.

Although when I worked at stores with carts, I always enjoyed getting to go round them up- it was time outside, away from managers and customers, and I just kinda liked it.

@pinkfrog:  I liked that too – I used to work on the floor at Wal-Mart and hated checking people out so I always volunteered to help with the carts.

I always put my cart away.  Or Fiance does – we are both pretty fastidious about that.  I don’t want people’s cars to get dented.

My blood literally starts to boil the second I pull into a grocery store parking lot for this very reason! I always start to pull into a spot, then realize a cart is parked right in the middle of it, and have to back out.
