Those designers in Kleinfields are at the higher end. You pay a lot for the experience & brand names. You can go to a David’s Bridal and get a dress for $99. But it sure won’t look like a Pnina original.

Think of of it as buying shoes. You can go to Walmart for a pair of black heels or pay x100 for a pair of Jimmy Choos at Saks.

“Average” is a huge range that has many factors like income, style, & area you live. Around my parts (north Indiana) brides spend 800-2000. But in Chicago, that’s probably the average price of undergarments.

Its like purchasing any type of clothing. The prices and qaulity vary significantly. I am just guessing averages based on researching for my own dress. David’s Bridal has prices ranging from a few hundred to over a thousand. Alfred Angelo tends to be around the thousand dollar range. Boutiques, in this area atleast were in the thousand to two thousand area. Chinese knockoffs are less but are a crap shoot of quality. Some are happy and others get screwed.

See what your options are in your area and figure out wht you feel comfortable with. Just personal opinion- Mori Lee has the best quality for the price range. I have a simple yet elegant dress the was only $311 on a sample sale.

mtodd0516:  the average price spent on a wedding dress depends on where you live. I am in NY and I would think the average price spent on a dress is around $2K

When you shop at Kleinfelds you are paying for the name. Especially a Pnina gown

I spent like $300 on my custom-made (etsy) dress and absolutely loved it… spend however much you want to.

I paid 1300 for mine… the other one i looked at was 1800 and i baught a replica off ebay for 150 and it was horrendous.

One of my best friends got 3400 one off the rack for 1400 cos it was 2 seasons old… some bargains can be found.

Also i wore my dress for 12 hours all together.

mtodd0516:  I noticed how much cheaper bridesmaids dresses were, so I found a bridesmaid dress that looked like a wedding dress and ordered it in ivory. I spent $150.

I think my friends spent about $800 on average.   I got my dress for $130 from David’s on sale.  I think you could find something really nice for $100-300 on sale at David’s.   Try to find something that fits pretty well.  Alterations can be more than a discounted dress.

If your willing to go to someplace like David’s Bridal, you can very easily get a dress under $1,000… if you try to go looking at salons with designer dresses you should be prepared to pay a lot more. I consider myself lucky that I found my dress for $2,500. My dress was something I knew I didn’t want to settle on and was afraid I was going to fall in love with something that costs like $5,000.

Just dont try anything on that you cant afford!! Good luck!

I also watch ‘say yes to the dress’ very addictive isnt it. There is also the show ‘found the gown’ this shop sells designer dresses for a bargain. If i lived in the states – thats where i would go. For my dress i paid around $3000AUD including alterations and veil.

My budget was around that price. But i think if THE ONE had been more than i had probably bought it too – and i have a regular income, i saved up a lot. I know its just one day – but its THE DAY  and the pictures will last forever. You will show them to your children and your grandchildren… and you will showcase them in your house. It is special 🙂 maybe even your daughter is going to wear your dress one day…

My tip if you dont want to spend too much… set yourself a budget and dont try on anything above. Because my experience was – the more $$ the prettier it was (more lace, more beads, more detail, ….)

Good luck with dress hunting 🙂

mtodd0516:  I am also plus size and thought I was gonna spend 2k, I’m really glad I didn’t. I got a higher end dress at DB and paid 800 was on sale from 1300. The non designer dresses look very meh there, I liked the Melissa Sweet and Zac Posen ones there. I only went to David’s to get an idea of what I want, my Maid/Matron of Honor wasn’t with me and she was pissed  when I bought one. :/ otherwise I’m happy.
