It’s all about what you want/like and can afford or are comfortable spending. Every bride has different priorities. A dress was important and I wanted it to look amazing, but it wasn’t as important to me as top notch photography and amazing food. I went in with a $2000 budget with the understanding that I’d push it to $2500 should I not find anything I liked. I was pleasantly surprised to find one under budget around $1400 that I loved and was “the one”. I also splurged on the matching veil from the designer because I saved money on the dress.
I knew from the get-go, and having done my own research on what I liked, that I wasn’t even going to go to David’s. I’d been with friends for their shopping and wasn’t thrilled the selection, quality, or experience. That isn’t to say that someone else doesn’t have a great experience there and be totally happy with their dress. I have lots of friends who spent tons of money on their dresses because it was important to them. Likewise I’ve had friends who could care less about their dress and are happy to pick something off the rack for $200.
