Ours was ~$900 for 100 people. We had other options that were cheaper, but we went with a baker who has done amazing cakes at weddings we had been to in the past. The range really is all over the place though in pricing. Do you have any other bakeries you could get quotes from?

Cakes are really expensive. I’m doing a donut tower, with a tiny little cake topper on top of the tower to cut. I’m not sure the price but I’m imagining it will be much cheaper.

We were quoted $120 plus delivery for a cake for 40. The place I really wanted to go with cost $8 a slice (WHAAAAAT?) so we talked to our favorite bakery who, it turns out, DOES do wedding cakes, and they’ll be making a naked strawberry shortcake for us…mmmmmm!

My wedding was seven years ago, and we paid about $700 to feed $125 people. It was a beautiful and delicious cake.

Just a word of caution: Please check with your venue to ensure that you would be able to have a friend or family member bake a cake for you. In many areas, there is a requirement that any food served — including cake — must be prepared in a licensed, commercial kitchen.

Our 35 serving cutting cake with set up and delivery is going to cost $250! Yikes! So we are doing bundt cakes and mini bundt cakes that are similar size to cupcakes. It is $30 for a 10″ bundt cake that serves 20 people and the mini ones are $20/dz. We are spending about $300 for plenty of cake for 130 people I think with all the servings were close to 180 servings. Here’s an idea of what we are going for.

I just finalized my cake today actually. Semi-naked red velvet with cream cheese frosting, three tiers, will feed around 150 (more than I need really but it’s the smallest wedding cake she will do). $128.50 including delivery and setup. I will have some flowers and berries at the venue for her to decorate it with. Admittedly we are not in a very expensive area and I am using an at-home baker, mainly because we are getting married on a holiday weekend and the bakeries I would have used are closed that week. I think for those bakeries it would have been anywhere from $2.50 to $5.00 a slice. As someone else said, the at-home baker route is not an option with some venues. Here is one of the inspiration photos I gave her.

For a 2 tiered cake to serve 30 we’re paying $240. That includes a $75 delivery charge. Our cake doses not have a super elaborate design or fancy filling. We are having the wedding in northwest Indiana,  which is pretty close to Chicago.

kelmpm7809 :  Are those from Nothing Bundt Cakes? The icing looks familiar to me… I love Nothing Bundt Cakes for birthdays… or unbirthdays… or random cake cravings, haha. They’re really yummy.

I wish I knew about them (if they even existed) when I got married. My wedding cake served 35 and cost $350.

$200  we asked for double size slices because we are serving ice cream too. We are also saving the 6″ top tier for our anniversary

Oh boy! I couldn’t believe the prices when I started to look at cakes. Our wedding had 43 people including ourselves.. 50 cupcakes was what we had in mind. We wanted to do cupcakes for a variety of reasons… The main one being simplicity- guests walk up, grab a cupcake and walk away. No cutting, no crumbs, no plates and forks. Easy as pie (no pun intended ;-)) the most outrageous quote I got was $500.00 at a whopping $10.00 a cupcake. Bare in mind, I didn’t want anything fancy, a simple swirl frosting and maybe a sugar flower or little candy pearls. We had a destination wedding and honestly- I ended up going to Safeway and ordering 50 of their cupcakes in the colours and flavours I wanted and paid $100.00…$2.00 a cupcake, we set them out on super cute cupcake trays and they looked awesome and nobody complained… Guess it really comes down to how much is a cake really worth to you? For me- it didn’t hold enough importance to justify spending $500.

That sounds about right, my mom is a baker (Dominican cakes). Her costs are much cheaper than most but Wedding cakes are always at least $500 for 100 people. It takes ALOT of work (trust me I’ve observed :P).

My venue includes the cake though.

my cake is $236 (weird number right?) and then we are also doing Nothing Bundt Cakes as well. which will add about $75.
