@SarahCF:  That is CRAZY!!! I hope they put platinum bobby pins in your hair for that price. I was really lucky, I got my hair done for free! I have been going to the same hair stylist for 8 years so she did my hair as a gift to me on my wedding day.

I live in CA in an expensive area. I’m divorced. For my first wedding over 10 years ago I paid $900 for my hair. Yes, you heard right. But, my hair looked amazing! I felt so beautiful, and it lasted all day and night. I find pics of me being posted on wedding websites saying “this is the hair I want”. It was worth it. In the end, in a few years, all you will have left are your rings and your pictures, so look good. It doesn’t seem like it now but in a few years you will forget all the wedding fever and when you’re looking at your pictures you won’t be thinking about the food or the liquor or the favors, you will be looking at what you looked like.

I paid $20 for myself, plus a tip. The girl who did my hair for prom in high school is who I asked to do my hair. She came to the church (she was invited anyways as our mothers are church buddies) to do our hair, and hung around throughout most of the pictures to make sure all was well.

Are there cosmetology schools in your area? Sometimes you can get a cheaper rate from students, and there are generally instructors there to oversee what they’re doing. An old co-worker of mine recently graduated from a cosmetology school here, and she just does hair on the side for a reasonable (IMO) fee while she looks for full-time employment.

i paid $45 for my updo, not just curls. a legit updo

    $35 each girl

AND she came to my house.

Granted she wasnt a licensed hair stylist (she is licensed in makeup) but I had great references that highly suggested her.

I was getting ready to spend about $500 for bride/bridesmaid hair package at a salon until i found her <– still nowhere near that last quote you got.

I’m sorry, $550 just to do your hair? No.

    Mine is $47.

This obviously depends on region or even just part of town. I think my hair was about $175 the day of (with a trial that was also like $100 or something?) and like $100 or something for makeup? But I’m totally pulling that out of my ass, I don’t really remember. I thought it was reasonable, since I’m from an area where most people pay over $50 just for a trim and blow out, so for a labor intensive up-do where they came to our hotel to do it, it didn’t seem like too much.

@SarahCF:  every couple months I used to get my hair done between 100-200 so it’s really nt a shocker to me that wedding hair is 500

I am disgusted by how much I am paying! I spend $50 to reserve the day, $150 for a trial and another $150 for the day off….$350!!!!!! Ugh!

hair added in clip in extensions and an updo with  airbrush makeup trial was 110 — day of would be same plus 10 if I wanted false lashes. Worth it once I factored in the trial was July 13th in the midst of a Louisiana humid summer & it stayed.  I would keep searching.
