We had a Dutch themed shower, both of us have Dutch ancestry, a ton of people in Michigan are Dutch or descendants like we are, and the idea of a Bridal Shower actually comes from a Dutch tradition.  We had wine, cheese and desserts but the overlaying theme was subtly Dutch if you aren’t familiar and in your face if you are.

I wore a blue and white dress and red and white shoes – the Dutch flag is red white and blue.  I also wore an orange necklace because the House of Orange is important to the Netherlands politically and a symbolic part of the resistance to Nazi occupation in WW2.  We had blue and orange ribbons and blue, orange and white flowers.

Our favors were canned Dutch Applesauce with the recipe and blue orange and white ribbons on them.  We drank Chocovine a grapey chocolatey wine that kind of tastes like Kahlua. And we had gouda cheese and my aunt made a homemade banket which is a traditional almond dessert. yum.

I had a pair of Wooden shoes with a dutch boy and girl and “Holland” on them, I lined them with a blue and orange napkin and filled them with Wilhelmina mints. These are a dutch candy named after Queen Wilhelmina and sold in a local grocery chain here.  My fiance made me a plaque a few years ago in Dutch for live laugh love which we also displayed.

I even got  a Delft (Dutch pottery) Plate as a gift. My fiance had seen one in my cousins house and mentioned his grandma had one and my cousins wife found one for us. So exciting!

I had a lot of friends who had conflicts they could not get out of and 2 of my Bridesmaid or Best Man are out of state, but still had all my family there, some of my friend and some of my moms friends. Everyone seemed to enjoy the food and games and they gave me some wonderful gifts and marriage advice. 🙂

Hey girls! Had my bridal shower, it was SO lovely.

My two sister-in-laws hosted it at my Mother-in-laws House. It was Phantom of the Opera themed! Black table cloth, rose petals, black dishes, red roses!

There was a bit of trivia, an egg race (I won!), and lots of snacks and food which was all delicious!

I have no pictures at the moment, but I’ll post some when I get them. However, at the end of the shower, before everyone left, they wrote a little note (well wishes) on black & white cards which they tied around red roses, which left me a gorgeous boquet of roses to take home (with lots of well wishes attached!)
