At the time, our combined income was approx just under $70,000 and the ring was approx $2,300. So it was just a bit less than one month’s pay after tax for Fiance. I wouldn’t have wanted anything bigger though, because 1ctw is plenty!

Our combined income is $95k and we spent $2000 on a diamond ring at first. We just bought a moissy for $939 as an ‘upgrade’. I had two kids prior to our marriage and we are expecting a son in May. Although my DH pushed me to get a bigger and better diamond, I adamantly refused. There’s just so much I’d rather do with the money. Plus, I’m going to stay home with the baby for a year. It’s scary!

It’s a personal choice. I don’t think that there is a set percentage a man should follow when buying a ring for his future wife. I’m sure others have different opinions. Hell, so did I before I got married!

Hubby makes right about $120k (sales mgr) and I made $170k last year (real estate broker). We are both in our early 30s. Hubby spent $19,000 for a 2.03 ct G/VS2 RB diamond center and another $3500 for a diamond pave/solitaire setting. Two simple 1ct eternity rings on either side (around $2K) and my “baby band” is a 4 ct diamond u-prong eternity which is my RHR. The diamonds on the eternity band are all excellent, vs1 quality. I believe he spent around $9K for it. So in all, my wedding set with baby band cost right around $33,500 with a combined income of a little less than $300K.

I believe he spent around $7 for it. So in all, my wedding set with baby band cost right around $32,000 with a combined income of a little less than $300K.

I wanted a good quality CZ; he wanted a natural diamond. We shopped together and he spent about a week’s wages. ~$500.00. I wouldn’t have been comfortable with his spending more $$ than that but I had no authority to stop him had he done so. A couple years later we upgraded to another that stacked better with my bands: doubled the cost, $1k, but it was on sale. We never really cared much for the “two months’ salary rule” standard. My frugality wouldn’t have justified higher spending at that point in our lives.
