It was my birthday.  He woke me up at 5 am which at first I was a little grumpy about until he told me it was a surprise.  We got in the car and drove three hours south of our home to Monterey, Ca.  On the way I finally guessed that we were going whale watching by boat which I had wanted to do for months. I knew he wanted to ask me but I didn’t think it was going to happen anytime soon,  In fact, on the drive down he told me some story about how Tacori had screwed up this ring he wanted to order for me and that he couldn’t get it for me for another 3 weeks.  I told him I didn’t care and that I didn’t want him to tell me about it.  I just wanted to be surprised and anytime he asked me would be fine.  Although I did add that I was glad he couldn’t propose to me on my birthday that way and I gave him my spiel on how birthdays should just be birthdays and that anyone who distracts from a girls birthday by proposing is a bit of a jerk.  He just smiled.

Whale watching was the most memorable and breathtaking experiences and it involved us doing a lot of cuddling on deck since it was cold. We got back into town in the afternoon and planned to shower and have a very fancy dinner in west Sonoma County (wine country) where we live.  I was putting on mascara while he drove so I was not paying much attention to the fact that we were driving way too far South to end up in the town we had reservations in.  When I finally looked up I told him that we were definitely in Occidental, a tiny coastal town in Sonoma County.  I was a little frustrated because he never gets lost and now we were in the wrong town and were likely to lose our res at this very fancy restaurant elsewhere.  To add to the frustration he kept assuring me that we weren’t in Occidental which was rather comical when we came out of the woods to a sign off the road that said “Welcome to Occidental.”  He pulled into the parking for one of the only five buildings in downtown Occidental.  I noticed that is was the Union Hotel and Restaurant.  He said “Oh well, while we are here I guess we will just have to eat where my parents got engaged 40 years ago.”  Thats when I knew it was coming and lost the ability to keep my mouth closed or breath.  I was more nervous than him.  The place was so cute and kitschy with dripping candles in chianti bottles and checkered tablecloths.  It was warm and I chose to sit on the beautiful patio.  He began to say something but I stopped him and asked to have a minute to collect myself.  He still finds that funny but I was not ready to be proposed to.  I nodded for him to continue when I was certain I wasn’t going to pass out.  Sure enough he got down on one knee and spoke the most beautiful words anyone has ever said to me.  He pulled out the royal blue tacori box and gave me the most stunning engagement ring ever.  He began shaking and crying but I think I said yes in there somewhere.

Then we ordered food and he said “I know you don’t really like surprises and you just got a big one so I am going to give you a heads up that in 15 minutes both my family and your family are going to show up and we are going to have a little engagement party.”  I promised to act surprised when they arrived which was easy since I was still in shock and drooling over my diamond.  His parents toasted to us and we all drak champagne.  It was the best day of my whole life.

That is so sweet!!! By the way, Odess, I’d like to hear yours.

My Fiance came to my place from 75 mles away where he lived. He seemed to be rushed. 3 months prior we had looked at engagement rings, so I expected it was coming. Every time he did something out of the ordinary I’d ask, “Are you proposing??” He’s always say no.

I just sold my home to move where my Fiance lived and was having a sale. My Fiance came and I said I was so hungry and wanted to go eat. He said he had a video to show me first. I asked him to let it wait (stupid me lol) but he insisted. We sat down and starting watching. Pictures of our trips together and candids flew by and it was just so sweet. It was awkward because he was crying, so I said, “Are you proposing to me? Because if you are this computer is going flying.” He laughed and said, “No, just having a good time watching.” The last song came on and all these nice things popped on screen about how perfect we are for each other, how we have a lot of time to spend fixing my car (he hit my car on our first date lol), and then it said “Megan…” And I am just busting at this point. “Will you marry me?” I was crying so hard and holding on to him, I didn’t even let him get the ring out from his bag. He asked if I wanted the ring, and of course I said yes. He said he had to get on one kneee in order to put it on my finger though πŸ™‚

It was the engagement ring I wanted months prior. Come to find out he was rushed this day because he had to get down there by 5:00p before they closed to get it. It also took him 2 months to get the ring because when he went in the one I wanted was sold, so he had to custom order it. Poor guy was chomping at the bit to tell me, but couldn’t so he told my MOM instead.

We did get to go to dinner and spent 20 minutes trying to get his mom to notice the ring until finally I couldn’t take it anymore and slapped my hand on the table and told her. The reaction was priceless. I couldn’t have asked for a more perfect proposal, and it is something I can watch whenever I want. <3

Mine happened *somewhat* unexpectidly Christmas day 2011. We went to his mom’s house in the morning, as soon as we walked in she says, in an odd tone, “So anything new?!” I replied “No..” and out of the corner of my eye I saw my boyfriend (at the time) give her a nasty look & shush her.. So my interests were peaked.. Although he’s told me for years he’d never propose on a holday, it’s too expected. So we visit with her for a while, go visit his old neighbors.. of course I had text my sister meanwhile, telling her something was going on today.. So we get back to our house & scramble to get things ready for my family who was coming over to celebrate Christmas later in the afternoon. Once we finished setting up & getting food ready we went into his man cave for a drink & to wait for everyone. I noticed he was being very lovey, holding my hand, kissing my hand.. and kept playing all these love songs/Christmas love songs.. Being a little fidgity..

So we’re sitting there, enjoying some wine.. and he starts twirling my promise ring around on my finger, and comments “This ring is so boring.. you should take it off..” and takes it off my finger, well my heart stops.. this has got to be it… Then he puts it back on.. UGH

Then we get into our normal arguement about me wanting a diamond ring lol He said “You have enough diamonds, you don’t need anymore.” Which is true, he’s been very generous over the years, but I replied “No, I don’t have the one diamond I want.” He replies, “What diamond is that? A toe ring, an anklet?” By now I’m getting annoyed, he was just egging me on–he knew exaclty what diamond I was talking about. So I turn in my chair to get my glass of wine, and when I turn back towards him he is on his knee with a ring in a box and said “Is this the diamond you’re talking about?” The rest is a blur, I know he did ask me to marry him, and I’m pretty sure I said yes.. I know I cried like an idiot.. Meanwhile my family is knocking on the front door, and we didn’t hear them.. so eventually they just let themselves in & we hear them walking around upstairs. I literally push him out of the way & run up the stairs pushing through people to find my sister. It was great I got to tell my whole immidiate family in person (parents, aunts, cousins, uncles)! Everyone cried, of course I called all my best friends throughout the day & cried every time I retold the story.

IMO it was a great proposal.. it was just me, him & our dog.. in our house we bought together.. I wouldn’t change a thing!

It was a few days before christmas and he told me that he had a little suprise for me,  He told me that he was taking me to Rockafeller center to see the tree and go ice skating on Christmas Eve.  I was super excited because i had been nagging him to take me to the see the tree for the longest time and he was finally taking me and taking me iceskating there, but i was also super upset cause chrsitmas Eve i had our whole family coming over for dinner.  SO i had to cook, clean etc.  So its finally Xmas eve and here I was ice skating under the tree and it was amazing…. Things got even more amazing when he got down on one knee infront of everyone there and popped the question.  As he is asking me to marry him I hear a bunch of people cheering and stuff but just thought it was the on lookers.  So when i finally said yes and he got up to kiss me he told me to turn around.  When i turned around there was my family and his family cheering us on!!! It was the best christmas of my life.

I’d picked out the ring myself, and I knew that he was going to the store to pick it up that day.  We’d made plans to go for dinner that night (at our favourite filipino restaurant that had sentimental value for us), so I knew that he was going to ask me.  When we got to the restaurant’s parking lot, however, he told me that there had been a problem with the resizing and that my ring would not be available til the next day.  I was disappointed, but tried to hide it.  He told me that he had gotten me a consolation present instead, and handed me a big bag.  Inside was a ukulele and a ukulele case.  I had joked with him previously that if he was planning to propose to me then I expected there to be pygmy elephants and balloons present.  Sure enough, inside the ukulele case was a plush elephant and 3 half-inflated balloons.  While i was distracted with the ukulele and elephant, he had reached behind my car seat to the cooler he had hidden there, and pulled out a cupcake with my gorgeous ring stuck in the frosting.

(the cupcake was made by my favourite baker who also happens to be one of my friends.  she was giddy when he let her in on the engagement plan)

In response, I handed him a card that I’d bought the day before with “Yes.” written inside.  So that he had it in writing πŸ™‚

I proposed to my Fiance last week while we were vacationing in Italy with some friends.  I didn’t have any sort of plan in mind other than I would know when the time was right. The second leg of our trip was in Florence which is her favorite city.  We were at the Piazza de Michelangelo which overlooks the entire city of Florence and is just beautiful.  I knew I wanted to propose there, but there were too many people around! I suggested we take a walk as I saw a small trail, it led us to a beautiful secluded garden. We stopped at a fountain that was surrounded by purple flowers (her favorite color) and I knew it was the right! I handed our friend the camera and told her it was go time!

She was surprised!  In our last serious conversation I told her it would be at least a year before I proposed because I wanted to save up more money and finish getting out of debt. When she saw the ring she said “What! What is happening right now?  This isn’t happening right now!” and then I asked her to marry me!

@Tallulah_xo:  Yes, he is quite good at planning elaborate surprises.  However, he always jokes about how glad he is that I said yes since it would have been embarrassing when everyone showed up to congratulate us. lol.  He is an amazing man.

  • Wedding: July 2012 - Walnut Beach Resort

I’ll share mine! We just had our “one year engagementiversary” on April 25 πŸ™‚

Right after my exams last year we took a vacation to Cayo Coco, Cuba! We were so excited because neither of us had been to the Caribbean before, and we love to travel together. We’d been together for 5 1/2 years, and I lately had been wondering if he was going to propose soon. It didn’t occur to me that it would happen on this trip though, I always thought I would know when it was coming because he isn’t very good at hiding things! (And I didn’t think he could pull of sneaking a ring in his carry-on!)

When we arrived on Cayo Coco, we were quite upset to find out that our luggage did not arrive with us. After some discussion with the airline, we found out it didn’t make it on our connecting flight, and would arrive in 2 days. I have a habit of letting things like this get to me, so I was pretty upset most of the evening. We had to go buy things like sunscreen and bathing suits, which actually wasn’t that easy since Cayo Coco is a tiny cay with no towns on it, only resorts. I found out later that he was planning to propose the night we got there but didn’t because of how upset I was about the luggage!

Two nights later, the luggage debacle was forgotten and we were thoroughly enjoying our vacation! At sunset on April 25th,we walked down to the beach after we had dinner. We were walking in the water because it was sooo warm! He told me he wanted to take a few pictures of me in the water looking out at the sunset. So I was just enjoying the sunset and the water, while he was on the beach. Then he called me over and he had been writing in the sand while I thought he was taking pictures. He’d written “Will you marry me?”. I stared at it for a few seconds, thinking “Is this really happening?” He then got down on one knee, and said “Do you know what would make me happier than I already am at this moment? If you say yes.” I started crying, said yes, then he put a beautiful ring on my finger! He had picked it out, added diamonds to the band, and had it sized by taking one of my other rings in, all without me knowing! It made an already amazing vacation absolutely perfect!

We took this with the self timer πŸ™‚

His sand writing.

@Odess:  That’s a wonderful story! I love how it was so private between the two of you! I felt the same way with ours,(see above) we actually waited an entire day before calling home and telling our close family! My Fiance had purchased some international minutes for his phone before we left just so we could call, but I wanted to just enjoy it between the two of us before we told anyone πŸ™‚
