If I were you I would consider returning it. Put your rings stats into Blue Nile and see if you can get a better or cheaper ring for what you paid Zales. Mall jewelry, especially diamonds, tend to be low quality and over priced. I had a ring from Zales and the damn white gold needed to be replated all the time, something about their alloy. Since it’s already needed two repairs that would be a red flag for me personally.

Sorry, I know it’s so exciting to get a new ring and it sucks when it doesn’t work out.

We went with a local non-chain jewelry store. They have a master jeweler and a GIA gemologist. You can negotiate on price, they have gorgeous stones and can do custom settings. Check Yelp for your area! Chains/mall stores spend a lot on advertising and have mostly lower quality product.

teanerd :  It’s online only and completely legitimate. Do you know a fair amount about diamonds? If you’re educated on the 4 C’s you should be able to use their diamond search to pick a diamond and add it to a setting. Or if you just want a quick idea of what you could get for your budget you could view the recently created rings in your price point. I find their website pretty easy to use, but I also know what I’m looking for.

Two repairs is a lot. My first engagement ring years ago was a small mall ring – the diamond is a mere speck of dust – so my hearts not broken that it’s not a great diamond.

When I went to buy my 25th anniversary ring, I tried a lot of mall stores. The diamond quality was poor. I was shown I3 diamonds with huge black spots on them. I was told ‘people want large diamonds cheap so this is what we carry’. It was a 1ct solitaire for about $3000 – very cheap!

i ended up going to a jeweler and picking a diamond then having it set in a setting I saw on the internet that I loved. It’s also 1ct, but much better quality. Had I known about Moissanite I would have seriously considered it. I love it’s sparkle

i would suggest going to a jeweler who can Put together a ring that suits you and your budget. You can get beautiful rings at an affordable price – and a jeweler can usually make anything you ask. I see the ring you chose has an I1 diamond – so not as bad as I was shown at the mall – but I1’s can have spots or cracks visible to the naked eyes.  I’m not a diamond snob that insists on an internally flawless diamond, but I also don’t want to be looking at a big black spot every time I look at my ring – or end up cracking my ring due to fractures. Move up a tiny bit to an S1 diamond – then they are eye-clean of any spots (inclusions), and are still a great price.

teanerd :  I must say those VW rings are pretty darn cute!! The stats are listed in the link you sent me, I’m going to look on Blue Nile for you to see what I can find πŸ™‚ I probably won’t find anything with a surprise sapphire, but I’ll try to find something similar.

We went with the Natural Sapphire Company, but if I got a diamond ring, I would have probably gone through Blue Nile. I have a plain 18K gold wedding band from them and it feels so luxurious!

And yes, Blue Nile is online only. They have a great return policy if you’re unhappy with your ring, too!

OK so there’s what I found! The top one is a ring someone else already made as an example and then the other pictures are of the setting top and side view. The final picture shows the diamond I found for you that is better quality than what you currently have and larger. The ring I made has 1/3 ct diamonds in the setting H SI, and the main stone is a round I SI1 Ideal cut. The total for the ring I created is $2,445 πŸ™‚

You could even add this diamond and sapphire 14K white gold wedding band for $500 πŸ™‚
