I didn’t get my first PP period until 13 months PP. Much more regular than before pregnancy. And heavier the first 2 days, but only lasting 4-5 days. Before pregnancy they were not as heavy but 7-8 days long.

I got my first period after 8+  months after delivery. I think this can be very very different. It’s all about the hormones and your physical wellbeing aswell adjusting.

Quick dumb question.

If you do not get your period that means you are not ovulating right? And therefore cannot have a child again till you get your period again?

I got mine at 5 months pp because I stopped breastfeeding due to a medication change. My cousin didn’t breastfeed and got hers back after 2 months. So it really varies. My flow was just like pre-pregnancy but I was much more emotional.

Yeah, I’ve understood that after delivery, there is a great chance of getting pregnant, even without regular periods.

I’ve heard that you’re unlikely to get pregnant while you’re breastfeeding (but that it is possible).  Not to threadjack, but is this because you don’t get your period/ovulate while you’re breastfeeding?

@Juliepants: I’ve heard that too, it’s really complicated! Heard that you basically can get pregnant after delivery, but also not if you are breastfeeding. :/

One of my best friends got pregnant while breastfeeding and never got a period. Her son was 3 months old when she got pregnant with her daughter. Her daughters due date was her sons first birthday, lol

I know quite a few people that got pregnant right shortly after having a baby and they were still breastfeeding and hadnt had their period yet. So I think the time after delivery is a tricky one.

@regberadaisy: You can still get pregnant. That’s how I have an uncle and sister. Both my Grandmother and mother thought they couldn’t get pregnant because they didn’t have a period. One of my Midwives told me that she sees a lot of women who are pregnant at their 6 week check-up.

@eurekaanchovies:  Lol!

I got my first period at like 6 weeks post-partum.  🙁  It was the same as pre-period, but once I had the Mirena inserted, my periods got shorter and lighter and I had almost no cramps (I usually have really bad cramps).  By the time I had the Mirena removed, I was lightly spotting for one day a month with no other period symptoms.  It was awesome!

The whole “can’t get pregnant while breastfeeding” is a 100% myth. You very well can and I know some people who believed the myth and have babies 11 months apart!
