@Overjoyed:  Interesting! You’re right about church laws and the like. That’s one thing that’s kept me away from denominations altogether. I can do without all the legalism and religiosity, and just stick to the text: He came, He died, and by His grace I’m made complete…AMEN! Lol

I guess the main difference I notice in JW’s vs what I believe is the works aspect (going door to door as a requirement), and the fact that you said nobody knows if they will be saved until they die. I was wondering if you could tell me where you got that from?

I respect anyone’s right to follow which ever religion they choose. However, I grew up with a lot of JW kids who had a very rough time of life and it all centered on the JW lifestyle. All of them got into heavy drugs as teenagers, several got pregnant, several joined street gangs, and one is now dead. His parents were encouraged to kick him out of the house at 17 when he was excommunicated from their church.

Just like any religion, the possibility for abuse is there. But for some reason, the JW faith seems to have more of a cult mentality attached to it. I can appreciate that this hasn’t been your experience, but it’s definitely an issues with JW’s.

I was friends with a JW guy, he was a gentleman and any JW I met through him was equally as nice. I have respect for all and any ones chosen religion/path into religion.

The OP is “witnessing” right now with this thread 🙂 This thread and the questions answered by the OP reflect the type of conversation you may have with JWs if you took the time to talk when they call to your door.

As far as I know spreading the word is called witnessing (if I remenber correctly)

The OP will count the time spent on this thread and document it into hrs spent witnessing.

Its an interesting subject, always good to gain knowledge 🙂

Would you rather die then get a blood transfusion?

Would you rather let your child die then let them get a blood transfusion?

You’ve mentioned bloodless surgeries and stuff adn that’s all great if it works out well, but accidents happen and sometimes you need blood or you die.  It is not unheard of that JWs die from not recieving blood.

Also, didn’t Jesus technically drink his own blood and have the apstles drink it too?  I guess I don’t know why it is bad if Jesus and the apostles did it.

I had a coworker who was JW and during all the holiday parties/birthdays etc. she never participated because she said JW don’t believe/celebrate holidays. She also told me JW don’t receive/give gifts so she never joined any of our office pools for people’s Bdays/showers etc, but she always managed to take the Xmas gifts the attorneys would give (spa certificates, gift cards to high-end restaurants, etc.).

@Overjoyed:  Cool! Btw I hope you didn’t think I was bashing JWs. I definitely understand faith without works is dead and that you must put feet to your faith. I was just confused on if the door to door duties were something that was specifically drawn from the Bible or if it was an interpretation of a principle. I understand what the purpose is now.

@Overjoyed:  then what did he do at the last supper?

So Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you
