With the jarring realization that I’ll be 38 weeks pregnant on Friday, I decided I should start think about packing a hospital bag. I’m stumped about what to pack to wear home from the hospital, though.
I assume I won’t be one of those lucky broads who can wear pre-pregnancy clothing home (I have a friend who wore her non-maternity jeans home…), but I’ve also heard that maternity jeans will fit weird.
I’m thinking my maternity yoga pants (which I’ve been pretty much living in for months) and a tank…but then other people suggest a dress. Would you/did you wear a dress home? I just worry everything is going to be…leaky and icky.
What did you wear home from the hospital, and do you wish you’d worn something different?

@Mrs Sarah McK: I wore my black maternity dress pants and a loose tank top home. It was comfortable. To be honest I wore my non maternity jeans the day after we got home and as soon as our visitors left I took them off because the seam made my lady parts sore. Anthing comfy will do the job!

Thanks for the feedback! I think I’ll go ahead and pack the yoga pants (no restricting waistband or anything) and a tee shirt (since it’ll be August) and also throw a maternity dress in there, just in case.

I wore home jeans & a cute pink top with flats 🙂

I wore home an empire waisted sun dress. I knew it would fit, it would be cute in photos, and I didn’t have to worry about my flabby tummy or my diaper butt . The yoga pants are going to show that you are wearing netted panties and a giant pad. That would be my only reason not to.

I took a dress as well as some black yoga pants and a t-shirt. I was going to wear the dress because we thought we were going home at 11am. However, we had to stay until 8pm and I was exhausted by that point so I threw on the yoga pants and t-shirt and I was really comfortable.

I wore maternity khakis and a long-sleeved t-shirt (January). This time I packed a nursing tank and a stretchy skirt that I can wear while not pregnant all the way through to 40 weeks and back. 🙂 I wore maternity pants for awhile after #1. And then I bought a cheap pair of “fat” jeans from Target just because I wanted “real” clothes.

I wore maternity jeans and a maternity top.
I was (and still am) rocking my maternity jeans. They are too comfy to let go!

To be honest, I think I’d want to wear something soft and comfy, I wont care about style Im thinking a nice PajamaPants outfit. I can button myself up and slip into my pants with ease.
Or one of those flowy dresses women wear on vacation to cover up.

I wore yoge type pants and a maternity cotton top. I ended up having an emergency C-section and can’t even imagine how uncomfortable I would’ve been if I had to wear jeans home! Don’t forget the granny panty underwear either! They will be your bff for awhile!

Wait, someone is going to be taking pictures of that moment??
I hope I’m not too exhausted to shower, dry my hair, and put on some makeup.
Screw it, I’m going to throw my hair up in a bun, slip on my fat-girl sweat pants and call it a day. And there will be NO photographs of that moment, except for of the baby in his first ride in his carseat.

I’ll be wearing sweatpants/comfy shorts and a t-shirt. Nothing fancy!!

i wore my pajamas home. Seriously, I packed my make up, dryer, flat iron, cute matching outfit for me and my daughter. Did any of these things see the light of day while I was in the hospital? noooo. I was traumatized by the gigantic diaper/pad full of ice that I had to wear after giving birth and all I wanted to do was do the SITS bath all day and not look at my stomach. LOL. Plus it was freeeeezing out so that did not help my vanity at all.

I wore pre-pregnancy sweatpants, and a pre-pregnancy t-shirt. I mean, I was crazy swollen from all the fluids, but they had enough give that I didn’t care. TBH, I would not have been comfortable in a dress at ALL-I was still wearing the diaper underwear, and everything just kind of felt…heavy.
Also, there might be pictures…there were of us:
