My husband’s parents divorced when he was two years old. His mother gave him her wedding band (a simple, 2mm plain yellow gold band) when he turned 16. He’s kept it in a safe ever since, and hasn’t bothered to think about it since. Recently we were cleaning out our storage, and I unlocked the safe and picked up the ring. I noticed it had my husband’s initials engraved on the inside (his mother added that after he was born). I asked my husband if he wanted to keep it in the safe, and he said “sure, not much else we can do with it”. It got me thinking, I have a simple yellow gold chain. I thought it might be nice to wear the ring on this chain, because it represents the union that created my husband, and his initials are on the ring after all. My husband told me if that’s what I’d like to do, then it’s better than it just sitting in a box in our basement forever.
To my mother in law, it’s just a piece of jewelry, and she holds no sentimental value to it. This is how I feel too, I honestly don’t care what the history is behind it, I’m not at all superstitious. But I’m curious to know what your opinions are. Do you think that’s weird? Or would you also view it as just another piece of family jewelry?

I don’t think it’s weird. In fact, I would probably find a way to utilize the ring too!

I don’t find it weird. In fact, I would have used it as a wedding band.

Idk if I would use it as a wedding band but on a necklace or even have a head added and set a stone (like his birthstone) and use it as a right hand ring

Not weird at all! I would use it as a wedding band, like the other Bees suggested, or a RHR.

lavenderstone: I would consider the “history” to be more in honor of your FI than their marriage so I’d like it for that reason 🙂
Not weird at all

It’s nice- not weird at all.

I think thats a fantastic idea! Those 2 people being brought together are what created your husband!

Nope, not weird. I would do the same thing if I did not wish to wear it on my hand…

I would definitely do it, not weird at all!

It’s fairly simple to reshape a ring into a pendant. I did this with a inherited ring.
Also have seen wedding rings made into heart shape.

I do not think thats weird at all. If anything i think its really cute with the reasoning you have behind making their old ring into a necklace.

I think it’s a lovely idea! Go for it sweetie! 🙂
