The jewelry box my dad made (he’s a carpenter) and gave to me for Christmas a few years back. I always tell my husband, “if the house is on fire, get the dogs and my jewelry box, I don’t really care about anything else”.

Might be a cheating answer, but the ring I will use as my wedding ring. It was my great great grandmother’s wedding ring.  I’ve loved it since I first saw it and didn’t want to be selfish by asking to use it as my wedding ring, but I finally asked my mom, and both she and my grandmother were thrilled that it will be used that way.  I think family heirlooms are pretty special.

@Bellagiobride: Mine is just like yours! My most treasured item is the ring that I have that was my mother’s. It is the only possession I have of hers (besides family pictures!). It’s diamond and I save it for special occasions only because I’m so scared I’ll lose it.

My runner up would be a little plastic pig that dances when the sun hits it (solar powered). My mother gave it to me to bring to college. Then I passed it on to Fiance when he moved to LV for work (for my whole pregnancy!). Now it sits on my liquor cabinet in the kitchen.

I actually thought my apartment building was on fire once (Thank God it was a false alarm!) and this is what I threw together….

-A jug of milk for my daughter

-Baby blanket

-Daughter’s favorite toy

-Box containing birth certificates and mum’s ring

-Plastic pig

I didn’t even grab my purse! They say that the things you grab in an emergency say a lot about what you value the most. My Fiance came home from work and looked through the bag and couldn’t stop laughing about the pig!

ETA: Sorry I got carried away and wrote a novel… oops

I am not the type to associate things with memories or anything. I could sell and leave behind any object that I own and I would be ok. I think that makes me weird lol.

@mwitter80: I’m with you.  Things are just things.  They don’t hold memories to me.  Maybe that’s why I’m so fascinated by the Hoarders show.  They really value to object as much as the person who gave it to them. Amazing how the brain works sometimes!

My chest of photos… family photos from generations past, childhood, my kids’ photos, all of them in one place.  I started putting them in scrapbooks but they are irreplaceable.  I’ve told my husband, he has to grab that chest and I’ll get the kids.  Our entire family history is in that chest.  (I’ve started backing it up on DVD’s, so that will be a lot easier to grab)

The book Fiance made of our life together so far and used to propose with. I love it so much! I couldn’t imagine if anything happened to it!

@Jeannine @ Small Chic:  Oh!  Love that answer.  I think I assume they’ll be running out with us…

For me it would have to be my wedding band.  My engagement ring is pretty unique and I knew that I wanted to get a band that I could wear on it’s own.  I am the only girl in four generations in my family and I had my Great Aunts, Great Grandmothers and my Grandmothers wedding bands and they were just sitting in my jewellery box so I melted everything down and had a ring made from the three of them.  It has 125 year of marriage built in to it and reminds me of who I am every day.  By far the most special thing I own.

My dogs.  Seeing their cute, furry faces is one of the best parts of each day.

Mine is a teddy bear that Fiance made for me.  It’s a simple light brown one, and it’s wearing a t-shirt with the Texas flag.  It was my combined birthday/Christmas present that he sent while I was living in Japan, not that long after we got back together after four and a half years apart.  It came with the following letter:

My Darling GreenEyedMoon,

Happy birthday and merry Christmas! I’m sorry your birthday present is so late, but at least this way your Christmas present(s) are early, so I’m going to use that to justify it. =) Plus I think I did a pretty good job on your present, so hopefully you’ll let me off the hook.

In any case, this present requires some explanation. See, this is no ordinary teddy bear. It is a magical lovey bear! His power is to bend the space-time so that whenever you hold him, you are really holding me, and when you cuddle with him, you are cuddling with me. No matter where you go, as long as he is with you, I am too. All you have to do to activate his power is think of me, and I will be there, albeit in fuzzy teddy bear form.

I miss you so much, my wonderful, beautiful girl. I can’t stop thinking about finally being able to hold you in my arms, take in your scent, and taste your kiss. I will be there with you in a few short months, and it will be absolutely perfect. For now, though, give your bear a big hug so I can be with you, even if only for a moment.

Soon we will be together again. I will be your Mr. Moon, you will be my GreenEyedMoon, and all will be right in the world. Until then, you will not leave my thoughts for a moment. You are all I want. You are all I can think of. You are my lovely.

Yours always,
Mr. Moon

P.S. Yes, I was just trying to see how many Texas-themed things I could fit into one box.

P.P.S. We just said it today, so I am adding it here: I LOVE YOU!

The first letter/card my Fiance ever gave me.. but other than that (not including people, or pets) I dont really have anything that I would be devasted over if I lost it.
