This might sound lame but ever since I saw Bella’s wedding dress in Breaking Dawn Part 1, I decided I had to have a cloth covered buttons down the back of my dress. I found the perfect dress with lace covered buttons down the back, however, they aren’t functioning buttons and that bothers me. Is that weird? It kind of bothers me that they are just on the zipper and don’t actually go into loops on the other side.
Back of my dress: (the buttons are on the zipper side)
Back of dress that has functioning buttons:
Is it tacky to have buttons only on the zipper that are non-functional? Could I add loops to the other side to make the buttons functional?
What do you think?

I dont think its tacky, but I say if its what you want go for it,…no idea how much something like that would cost though

i hate fake buttons… and it’s not like it’s not obvious…

I had non functional buttons all the way down on my dress. Nobody thought they were tacky. People just commented on how much they loved the buttons. I think Darling Husband would have been frustrated if he had to mess with buttons on our wedding night lol.

I love the look of the buttons.

I LOVE the look.
I just know that we got married at 6pm and I was up at 5am, and felt like I never had a relaxing moment the whole day. My dress was just a zipper dress and if I had to wait around for someone to button 100 buttons I would have lost my mind. LOL. (we had to get married at the courthouse that morning for our wedding to be legal and wasn’t it wonderful for my uncle to book his flight for the morning of my wedding??? SO I had to go get him at the airport)
If you have the time and someone willing to button them up.. GO for it!!

@beautifulmama28: I have no idea either … probably something ridiculous though to just add elastic loops.
@vmec: Me too but I’m not sure if I should really put it all the effort to modify them.
@Cory_loves_this_girl: This is a verrrrryyy good point. I doubt it’s very sexy to undo like 50 buttons lol But yours has alot which is beautiful but I couldn’t imagine what you would have done if they were real.

I wanted real buttons as well until I talked to a seamstress & she told me how much more difficult it would be and how much more expensive if it needed to be taken in or adjusted… I eventually just went with the fake buttons & like PP’s above then it’ll be easier on the man!

This is one of those details that nobody else will ever notice, so if I were you I wouldn’t worry about it. It looks nice the way it is.

@mylittleviolett: I don’t personally have an opinion about whether or not they’re tacky, but I will say this:
My mother had genuine buttons all the way down her dress (HUNDREDS of them!) She told me it took her bridesmaids HOURS to button them. Seems like you can get the same look and spend more time having fun, if you ask me!

@mylittleviolett: I would have picked another dress! Honestly, nobody is going to sit there and think “Those aren’t real functioning buttons! I hate it!”. Everyone will focus on how happy you are.

AND I just want to add that the dress you have on in the first picture looks AMAZING.

Mine has functioning buttons that cover the zipper, it needs the functioning buttons because if not the zipper isnt properly covered I think, I havent actually done the buttons up yet because well, there’s like 50 of them lol I do completely understand that it drives you crazy if they’re not functional because well I have a hard time justifying things just because they’re pretty (this does not apply to shoes). I would actually base all this on how much it would cost to put the loops in and the cheap person in me would justify the nn functionality vs price lol

I have the Casablanca 1914 that I’m turning into a slight mermaid and putting buttons on them from the top to Right after my butt. I love the idea of a buttoned dress, functional or non functional. 🙂

@fleetian4life: Thank you 🙂 I just love those hundreds of buttons but they do take forever to button.
@Cory_loves_this_girl: That’s true, I think it’s more about me knowing it not about what my guests will think.
@minipenguin: I think that too .. and it kind of makes the zipper pop out alittle more which pronounces that the buttons aren’t functional. I think you’re right too that I should see how much it actually costs.
@tobemrstaddesse: Me too!
