I just got summoned for jury duty too!

I filled out the form and checked the box for “financial difficulty” or whatever it was. And just attached a photo copied page from our employee handout stating that my company doesn’t pay for days of jury duty unless you have such and such hours.

Since I just started with the company in November there is no way I had the amount of hours needed to get paid the difference between jury duty and what I get paid normally (which isn’t much).

I JUST got a postcard in the mail stating I have been EXCUSED from jury duty!!!!

I’M SO FREAKIN’ EXCITED!!!!!!!

Now I don’t have to worry as much about missing any days of work. I budget almost down to the penny each month.

GOOD LUCK!

I had exactly the same thing happen a couple of weeks ago… luckily I had an appointment with a medical specialist which fell during the week of the jury service, so I applied to be excused & it was accepted 🙂

@ J Dubbs – I have gotten out of it before for that same reason.  I got called for it by the city and then federal.  I was able to opt out of federal since I’d just served city.

I would call them and tell em no!

I did jury duty last summer.  It was interesting, but I still had to work afterwards so it sucked that way.  I know we consider it inconvient and a pain in the ass.  But we should still be part of the system.  Thats the only time I’ve been used for an actual trial.

Just call the 800 number when you are supposed to call and check in, but instead choose the option to “postpone” jury service.  They let you postpone as late as 6 months!  And even when you postpone it, the chance they call you in 6 months later, when you go in person, they’ll let you postpone yet again!  It always works!  That way you delay the entire process till after all your wedding stuff is done…and also spread it out longer so they will stop harassing you so closely together!  good luck! @Miichelle:

Hopefully the physical therapy will keep you out, cause you don’t want to postpone, and then have to do jury duty closer to your wedding! Eek!!  I think in the states I live/d in, they only let you postpone once-Then you have to go no matter when the next time!!!

If it makes you feel any better, Fiance got a jury summons notice while he was in Vegas for his bach party last weekend. I never thought anything of it until I was cleaning off our desk and saw that his summons date is THE DAY BEFORE THE WEDDING (we are getting married on a Monday through Friday cruise and will be boarding the ship the day he is to appear). Postponement, please!
