Most people here consider Zales to have an inferior product for an expensive price with terrible customer service.  You won’t find too many Zales shoppers here, and probably even less who would order from Zales.com instead of choosing a ring in the store.  Sorry I can’t be of help, but hopefully your ring comes soon and you love it.  Can you post a pic?

@blue_bride:  That is gorgeous! My wedding bands are both from Zale’s and I’ve had them for over 8 years, they’ve held up very well and I have never had any issue with customer service when I get them checked, dipped, and cleaned.

I think sometimes people tend to overpay at chain jewelry stores but where I’m from, most people buy their rings from them. It wasn’t until I got on here where they are looked down upon. But my original engagement ring also came from Kay’s and again, no issue what-so-ever.

Have you tried calling their customer service number?

@lisaeversman:  That was a bit rude considering she has a ring coming from there. It may not be everyone’s chosen jewelry store but I have rings from zales and I’ve never had an issue.

@blue_bride:  Congrats on the engagement! Unfortunately, Zales is not known for having a good product or service so I don’t have much advice to give. I hate to say this but if I were you, I’d take this as the universe gifting you with the opportunity to get a refund and purchase a better quality ring. Sorry bee.

Everything she said was true. She wasn’t doing it to be rude. Giving a head’s up that a company is known for shady business can help her know to be on her guard. She could also do some investigating and perhaps find something of better quality at a better price and be happier in the end with the purchase. You had a great experience at zales? I wish that were true for everyone. I hope the op ends up happy with her experience. But after all I’ve read, not just here but other sites… I’d be surprised if there wasn’t an issue regarding workmanship, quality of stones, customer service, or a mix of all three. If you’re happy with your rings, then that’s a relief. I’m happy for you.

@JemmyGee:  What @lisaeversman wrote was not rude at all. Tactful but truthful. ETA. Nobody is looking down on the rings from Zales, we’re looking down on Zales as a company from a quality and customer service perspective. Wanting somebody to get the most gorgeous ring with a reliable jeweler within their budget is something everybody on this forum should support.

Look up the 4 Cs. Color, clarity, cut and carat weight. Is the center stone lab graded? Zales and Kay’s are known for pushing uncertified stones with visible flaws (I2 being the most common) and charging as if they were eye clean (SI1 or above). Find out what you’re getting. I’d advise against getting an uncertified stone. If certified, go with SI 1 clarity or better and cut is the most important. Go for “excellent” cut.

Agreed. She’s definitely in the return period. This one has particularly poor specs (I3/J/uncertified?) for a .20 ct center

In contrast, the same budget at Blue Nile would fit a GIA certified .61 SI2/G/Ideal. She could also choose a classic 2 ctw lab created eternity band or 1-2ctw lab created five stone ring for the same budget.

OP if you really love your ring I wouldn’t return it just because it’s from Zales. My ring is from the Canadian equivalent (peoples) and I love it, and have never had any real issues with customer service. I would start phoning them and asking where it is.

You’re going to get a lot of hate on here for anything bought at a brick and mortar store. At the same time, the online stores that are holier than thou on here also are known for poor practice, horrible customer service, etc. Just take a perusal through old threads.

I have several pieces of jewelry from Zales and Helzberg. As do the majority of people I know IRL. I’ve never had a problem whatsoever nor has anyone I personally know. If you truly love your ring, then stick with it.

The specs on both are terrible. Marriage is about communicating well. If your fiance is an understanding, reasonable person he won’t be offended. Moreover, a ring is a large purchase and I imagine he would want to get the most for his budget.

For the same price you can get a far better performing diamond at twice the carat weight.

Below is a good article on sexual harassment within the company.
