@dvandertuck:  Hi there! We are in the same boat! My family has a second home in Portsmouth and I have had my heart set on getting married in Newport since forever. We are STRUGGLING to keep it under 10,000. My fiance just graduated law school and we have student loan payments to make after all!  I would love to swap ideas with you. The only thing we settled on was a location. Were getting married at Sweet Berry Farm in Middletown. We are only having 50-55 guests so we were able to rent the barn area for $2300 which is very reasonable for the area. I am in the process of speaking to caterers and photographers now, but am running into the same issue, things are SUPER expensive. I’ll keep you updated as we go through the process, hopefull we can help each other have “our day” on a smaller budget!

@kalfolh:  Have you picked a caterer yet? I hear good things about Tom’s being very good and extremely affordable. I have had clients who have used them for parties and weddings and been very happy. I would have considered using them but they are not on the list for my location

@kalfolh:  Check out http://www.Herbphotograpy.org She was insanely cheap. She used to have her price on her web site it was $120 an hour if I remember correctly. She maybe more established and have raised her rates but I would inquire. We would have used her but she was booked for our date.

Check out Thumbtack.com for photographers and Dj’s. Thats where we found photograper. http://www.tatianablancophotography.com

We are using Fresh focus productions http://www.freshfocusproductions.com  for our video but look at http://www.bluelobsterproductions  I don’t know there rates but, they are High school kids, very tech savvy, they have booked some commercial work and have done a wedding. Max’s mother is a client of mine.

Dj we are using Moondance http://www.mondancedj.com Lowest rates I could find.

For Flowers I plan on Whole foods I have not spoken with them yet but planning on it.

For other things I got my veil on Etsy it is simple came fast and unwrinkled Bella bridal veils. I probably will get other things from etsy also save on crafts.

Best of Luck!

Don’t go with thumbtack.  I tried that for Photographers and I met with 4 of them and they were all bad.  Go to weddingwire.com and read reviews of photographers in your area.  If you have the wedding during the week or on a sunday or during the offseason then most are willing to work with you.

Don’t go with a crappy DJ.  The DJ runs the wedding.  I lucked out for my wedding and found a great affordable DJ (DJ MaShane http://www.DJMaShane.com).  Their lowest package is under $1k for the basic package.  I’m using them again for my bff wedding.  They have great feedback on weddingwire.com.  Shane is awesome!  Very fun people to work with!

To keep the price down you could look at Easton’s Beach Rotunda.  They had really good rates when I called.  I posted this on another posting but you can see the room from the link my DJ sent me (RI Wedding DJ at Easton’s Beach Rotunda)

Let us know all the vendors you go with and around what the cost was.  I’m looking into the same stuff for my bff!

@dd12345:  We SO wanted to get married at Easton’s beach. I was in love with the fact that it was A) on the beach B) you got the marry-go-round for your cocktail hour. I will tell you that it books fast! I mean super fast. Like booked for the next two years kinda thing. If you are interested in doing that I would book ASAP. We couldnt find anything near the date we wanted to go married there.

I found my Photographer on thumbtack.com Her name is Tatiana Blanco.

We just had our engagement shoot today. She included this in our package. She was great to work with. She showed us alot of the shots as she was taking them and she had a great eye for spots to get good shots at our location. I can’t wait to see the edited pictures and I know we will get beautiful wedding photos. Her prices were so reasonable.

@dd1234 It is irresponsible to make such a broad statement like to do not go with a paticular resource to find a vendor.

We feel like we made an excellent choice with our photographer.

@glowri:  I have had client use Thumbtack for different vendors and I can say you get what you pay for sometimes.  Once in a great while you might find someone thats really good just starting out but it’s not the norm.  Everyone is looking for different standards in there vendors so it might work out, it might now.  Ask lots of questions do anyone you interview.  See if they answer all your questions and how they answer the questions.  I always felt the vendors I selected for clients was ones that answer most of my questions without me asking.  That shows they have been around and are trying to answer as many questiosn upfront without you having to ask.

@kalfoth: It does book very fast.  It’s one of the best values for newport venues.  I always recommend that venue if you can get it.  If you don’t mind Friday nights or Sundays you can normally get it (or at least a few years ago you could).

If you are looking for a ceremony spot (seperate from the reception) there is an outdoor place (called Chapel by the Sea, but DON’T confuse it with the one in Warwick) inside of Colt State Park. Which is also a beautiful places for photos and they won’t have to leave the island! It costs 15 dollars (YES) for a three hour time slot. They book up super fast though. CALL THEM.

Also, you should definitely consider an off-season time to get married. You’d have MASSIVE discounts for a Nov-March wedding. Good Luck.

Check out Brittany Adams Photography. I just booked her.  New Wave Rhythm for DJ too.

kalfolh:

Hi, your wedding looks beautiful! My budget is comparable to yours and I am considering Sweet Berry Farms as well. Could I get in touch with you about vendors and your experience? It would be much appreciated!
