I have fallen in love with a couple of designs (mainly maggie Sottero, Allure and Mori Lee) and my favourite dresses have a zipper back, I will be wanting to change it to a corset back.
Have any other bees done this and was there any dramas with doing it? Also how long did you allow for alterations (I am in Aus)

@Allyw1980: I’m also considering doing this!

I am doing this with my dress. The only thing you have to make sure of is when the dress is ordered, it is ordered a size smaller then you actually are. The corset needs to be tight and have that nice V at the back, which won’t work if they order your exact size and just cut the zipper out. The boutique that I ordered from, screwed this up and when I went to try my dress on, it was huge. They are fixing it for me, but it obviously would have been easier if they had just gotten the smaller size.

@Allyw1980: I haven’t personally done this, but I worked in a formal dress boutique (mostly prom and formal social events) and saw this done all the time…and done well! It is totally do-able and, depending on the detail/beadwork/etc., it shouldn’t take very long for a seamstress to make those alterations. Of course, you want to make sure you have a good seamstress, but in the 5 years that I worked at the boutique, I never heard a complaint from anyone who had this done. Good luck! 🙂

Thankyou for the responses!
As it turns out I don’t need to change anything after all, I went dress shopping on the weekend and found my dress! It is totally perfect and already has a corset back 🙂
