I just started doing zumba and I love it!!! I do it just to workout and be healthy. I don’t need to lose any weight. Question for you bees who do zumba, when did you notice a change in your body? When did you look more tone and your tummy get tighter?

I haven’t tried it. But I have been wanting to try it SO BAD. Have fun! I might have to look into a class near me…

I do Zumba, and it is SO much fun! I’ve been doing it 2x a week, 60 min each session, for probably bout 2 1/2 months now, and I actually haven’t noticed much change. Except the area below my love handles, don’t know how to explain it, but they’re smaller and my stomach seems to be a little flatter but I don’t know if thats from Zumba or from the workouts I do on the side.
Personally though, I don’t think Zumba is an incredibly effective workout for me. Probably because I’m not a very good dancer, and I can’t move like my instructor who is sweating up a STORM. I just think its so much fun!

I used to do Zumba all the time, but I never really noticed much change – although it is fun. I do know that my body doesn’t have a huge amount of weight to lose though, so I tend to only see results when I use weights.
I think it is really dependent on your body shape and what else you are doing alongside Zumba

Can highly uncoordinated people do Zumba? I’m too embarassed to try.

@hopefloats: It’s a lot of foot work. I fail terribly at it.

I’m horrible at it, but I LOVE it!

@hopefloats: I love the dancing itself – the body moves, but the foot work = no go. I’m all over the place and not focusing on my upper half. It sucks. So, I gave it up. Haha.

I have only done it a couple times, and I LOVED it! It was the first time in my life that I was exercising and not looking at the clock every 30 seconds! And yes, the footwork was hard, and I felt sooo uncoordinated, but hey, tons of other people in the class looked awful too, lol!

Love it, love it, just love it! And my instructor rocks!!!!!!!!!!!!

I look like I’m having a fit when I do it, but I LOVE it, plus my HRM says I burn a lot doing it!

Just had to leave a comment on this ZUMBA thread! I think you definitely have to be watching your diet as well, the Zumba alone will not work miracles. Diet + resistance training + Zumba = awesome! That being said, since I have been doing Zumba 2-3 times a week for the last 6 months, I have noticed more tone and shape in my calves… this is a big deal for me since I have been blessed with thick, stocky calves that I have always tried to hide.
As for Zumba being complicated, yes there is a bit of a learning curve, and it takes maybe 4-5 classes to get into it and get some of the routines down. And each instructor is different, some instructors focus more on footwork and some focus on cardio (jumping, push-ups…) Just move how your body needs to move to work up a sweat and stick with it, it will get easier!
I really recommend it, and I wish I started sooner…

I have my first zumba class on Friday! So excited!
I have been doing cardio dance for a while now, and I loveeeee it!
My instructor is amazing & I have a ton of fun. For me, I just do it for the cardio and I don’t expect to see any noticable tone from it, just to shed calories.
At the end of the day I do the dance class fitness classes because they are a blast (even though I can hardly dance to save my life), and I’d recommend them just just for that and because it’ll get your heart rate up.
For toning, I’d try a resistance class of some sort using weights, resistance bands, and your own body weight as leverage.

LOVE it. I’ve been doing it a few times a week for nearly a year now, along with kangoo (a really cool cardio workout that has boots with springs on the bottom, f’k’n fun, man). I see a lot more ab definition, and in my arms too. I don’t need to lose weight, I’m only 100 lbs, but I want to look toned.
I have a 2 year old son, and my stomach is pretty nice mostly thanks to zumba.
