Hey ladies! I just joined a gym today, same one a couple of my co-workers go to. They all go to Zumba class Sundays and Thursdays and have invited me to join them. I said I’d be there tomorrow, but I wasn’t thinking about what would happen at the class. See I’m recovering from a broken wrist. I just got my cast off just over a week ago and it’s still pretty sore and can barely move. I can’t really hod anything in that hand. In a zumba class, do you have to hold weights or do any moves/stretches/whatever that would involve my wrist? I’m doing physio everyday, but even then, my physiotherapist says it will probably be 3+ months before my wrist is back to full strength.

No you do not have to hold weights. Zumba is a latin dance class. yes you move your body including your hands but you dont have to move the arm that is hurt. I have 2 herniated disks in my back. I take pilates classes but don’t ever do any moves that cause pain. If they do moves you don’t feel comfortable with modify it for you.

@futuremrste: Hey date twin and fellow Canadian!
I am a Zumba instructor, and the great thing about it, is you can do as much or as little movement as you want. I always show low and high impact options in my class.
To answer your question, I have a friend who is also a Zumba instructor, who actually attended classes with a cast on for her broken wrist! She was fine – she just limited her arm movements and focused on her legs.
Get to a Zumba class girl! You won’t regret it!

@futuremrste: I did it 2.5 months after a broken rib! I couldn’t lift my arms up that high, so I just kept my arms lower or didn’t move my one arm.
If I started to breath too heavily (deep breaths hurt ribs!), I’d just do my feet and no arms at all.
I’d say you’d can do it with a healing wrist!

Thanks ladies! I’m kind of dissapointed that I wasn’t able to get to Zumba last week. I woke up with an extremely sore throat that day (it hurt to swallow water), went to the Doctor and she thought it could be strep. So I had to stay home in case it was actually strep so that I didn’t infect others. (It turned out to just be a bad cold). I’m feeling a little better and assuming my nose isn’t running like crazy tomorrow I might go!
I actually called in sick that day, so even if the Dr. said I was good to go and was feeling better I wouldn’t have been able to go, since my co-workers are in the class. It looks kind of bad to call in sick to work then go to Zumba!

So I was actually looking at the wrong schedule, Zumba is on Wed. nights. Went tonight and OMG kicked my ass but it was awesome! I’m totally going to go again this weekend!
The instructor had us doing some pushups and what not, which I can’t do so I just kind of danced instead. There were a few other ladies in the class who did the same so I didn’t feel so bad.
On a side note, have you ever seen any guys at your classes? I’m trying to convince Fiance to join but he’s worried about looking like a pervert and people thinking he’s just there to check out women dancing….
